Camp
is such a blast! We have four days and three nights in Yosemite,
thanks to the collaborative effort with the Central California
Conference of Seventh Day Adventists. Camp provides fun, relaxation,
and exploring of the great outdoors.....oh, my gosh, and so much
more! And of course, extraordinary campers and volunteers!
We average over 120 campers ranging
in age from very little to well beyond their sixties...all of
them affected and some of them infected. Camp Care
proves
to be a powerful and emotional experience. It provides a sanctuary
for children and their families who are struggling with the reality
of HIV/AIDS. Through it all, the heartbeat of the weekend is pure,
unconditional love and fun!
The weekend absolutely can not
happen without the
commitment
and enthusiasm of over 50+ volunteers who start the weekend early
Thursday and go nonstop until Sunday evening...each of them contributing
expertise, talent, and love. All of us during the weekend - parents,
children, grandparents, foster parents, guardians, and staff -
learn from each other. I find new strength and courage from the
families. You see, these families know the taste of terror as
well as the promise of hope. I am always so proud of them for
making the effort to participate with us at camp....they are the
best!
I thank all those involved for
honoring the dignity and humanity of the campers with compassion
and care. We are grateful for those that support Camp Care. Once
again we were reminded that laughter really is the best medicine!
