All
About Care hosted the 3rd Fresno appearance of The Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt
April 14, 15, & 16, 2000
All About Care, a local non-profit
organization providing practical, emotional, spiritual, and charitable
support to people affected and infected with HIV/AIDS, was proud
to host the third Fresno appearance of a portion of The Names
Project AIDS Memorial Quilt.
The primary goal of this particular
display of The Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt was to heighten
awareness of the human ipact of AIDS in the Valley. Co-sponsored
by The Fresno Bee and ABC-30, admission to view this display
was free.
Begun in 1987 as a visual memorial and personal
remembrance to lives lost to AIDS, today the entire AIDS Memorial
Quilt consists of close to 52,000 individual panels. Approximately
10,000 viewers to the Selland Arena exhibit in April had the
opportunity to view 1,000 panels, including the panels of past
San Joaquin Valley residents. Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante
served as the Honorary Chair of this project which was organized
by Chair Cynthia Brazil Karraker and Co-Chair Beth Marney.
